What on earth are you talking about? The 400MHZ machine on the website costs $2599 w/o monitor. Are you telling I can get a similiar 400MHZ at CompUSA or BestBuy for $1799?

Just came from Staples...they were selling the Compaq 400MHZ for $2599. I guess they're trying to screw me too. BTW, its a 12 gig hard drive...not 10.

A month ago, I bought a PII 266 Inspiron. At that time, I couldn't even find a similar machine on a competitive price offered by any other vendors. On the desktop side, the gap is narrowing. I am considering to replace my desktop with a PII400. I am not sure I will buy DELL again. In case I have to return, it is a costly headache. I believe this may be a contributing factor that DELL's desktop sales slowed down somewhat while laptop remained strong.
