ALCATEL INTRODUCES 40 CHANNEL DWDM, PLANS 240 CHANNEL UPGRADE

atmdigest.com

Alcatel will introduce a 40-channel DWDM optical add/drop multiplexer at next month's SuperComm tradeshow in Atlanta. Alcatel said its new Optinex 1640 will be able to provide transport for direct ATM and IP connections to the optical layer. The multiplexer also features Out of Band Forward Error Correction (FEC), 100 GHz channel spacing, and the capability to add/drop eight wavelengths at any site. Future releases of the Optinex 1640 will support up to 240 optical channels via three upgrade paths. Any mix of signals up to OC-192 signals can be transported on any wavelength channel. ans.alcatel.com
