Re: placebos, investment potential

Yeah, they're called Vitamin B12 shots. Ever here of them? :-) Basically, the perfect placebo feels like medicine, i.e. the B12 shot is a painful intramuscular depot shot usually in the shoulder, but sometimes in the butt. Itÿlooks like medicine, i.e. anything in a syringe. And it is relatively harmless, i.e. a natural vitamin. Even better, the lore surrounding B12 is such that over half my patients credit them with curing something atÿone time or another, and they talk amongst themselves. It is truly a wonderdrug. Even even better, 99.9% of the cost of it is administering the shot and the office visit, so there are very high margins in it (gets the physicians to play along). Just make sure the patient returns for monthly shots.

Say, anyone interested in starting a pyramid scheme? First in gets the best of all that follow! We can concoct a bitter tasting potion of herbs, use my M.D. as validation, and market it as the cure. Need a bunch of ISR's (independent sales reps). And a bunch of morons - preferably, a good portion of which will double as ISR's. I guarantee a ROYI less than mine!

Good Investing,

Years ago when I was a resident at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, we had two different placebo tablets. One was very tiny, almost too small to hold in your fingers ,and was always given with warnings about being very careful not to exceed the dosage as it was very powerful. The other was a very large black tablet (probably mostly made of charcoal) unlike any medicine the patient had ever seen. Both were remarkably effective.
