Mohan: It is true that this should be taken with a pinch of salt. Iodides are recommended, since it will lessen the incidence of thyroid cancers following fall out or a radiation leak.
I am curious to find out whether the visitors to the blast site and the villagers around the test site were asked to take iodide salts as a precaution, until any possibility of radioactive leak was ruled out.
