Kemble -
This reinforces the point I made a month or so back. CPQ is more likely to put resource into taking share from IBM and HP, and moving up into the midrange (where they also compete against SUN). You will not see them say outright that competing against Dell is just too hard but the corporate moves suggest a holding action against Dell in the segments where Dell is strong, rather than an aggressive attack. The same effort deployed against the other players will yield a much better return for CPQ. This should allow Dell to continue consolidation of that space for the next 12 to 18 months. The question is - what does Dell do when they dominate in their current space? I am looking for the innovative new business that Dell will go after, and I would not be surprised if it were in a very different area than their current business.
