[YARDENI] 'Subject: New Y2K REPORTER on Dr. Ed's Econet

'I was very disappointed with the G8 response to Y2K. But I will give
them the benefit of the doubt until mid-June. Around that time, the OMB
will release its 5th Y2K progress report for US agencies. If it is as
bad as I expect, I'll most likely raise the odds of a global recession
to 75% from 60%. Worse yet: My number one concern is now that some
mission-critical military systems in the US and Russia will most likely
malfunction in 2000, with unknown and unpredictable consequences.
(BadaBum, BadaBOOM?) Moving from first place to second is the supply of
electricity.
My third concern is telecommunications: Last week's telecom
blackout demonstrates how much can go wrong when just one satellite
malfunctions. BTW: I am pleased to see that Steve Forbes has made Y2K a
campaign issue. His aide told me I had some influence on his decision to
do so.

My new Y2K REPORTER (#21) is at yardeni.com.
Below is an outline of the subjects.

1. G8 Responds To Y2K: Declaration Of Urgency, Not Emergency. Missing Is
Action.
2. Deep Impact: Ellie (a.k.a., Extinction Level Event). Y2K Now A
Campaign Issue.
3. Is DOD DOA? Ellie At DOD? Critical Flaws. Top Secret. CIA Issues
Warning.
4. Fortressing: Bullish On (Some Of) America. Barbarians At The Gate.
5. The Root Cause Of Y2K: In Tech We Trust. High Is Low. Mismanagement
101.

I hope you've had a chance to use my new Y2K DISCLOSURE DATABASE. It is
a searchable compilation of the Y2K statements in the 1997 annual
reports for the S&P 500 corporations. I'll be updating the list with the
first quarter statements soon. You can link to this new free service at
yardeni.com.
