Morgan said Japan was the Key in his recent interview on CNBC... Well, here is some more prognostication on Japan:

Camdessus sees slow, limited recovery in Japan

KANANASKIS, Alberta, May 23 (Reuters) - Michel Camdessus, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said on Saturday he
expected only a slow and limited recovery of Japan's stagnant economy.
****
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of Asia-Pacific finance ministers in this resort in the Canadian Rockies, he said: ''The situation in
Japan does not help a quick recovery in Asia.''

Camdessus welcomed proposals by Tokyo to boost domestic demand and strengthen its weak financial sector but added those steps were likely to
help the overall economy only ''slowly and to a relatively limited extent''.

''We cannot expect a very strong stimulus coming from Japan,'' he said

My bet is that you are going to get a chance to buy AMAT in the 20's before all is said and done. Again, this is in reliance on James Morgan's statement that Japan is the "key" for AMAT.

Jacob: When the thread consensus is expecting lower prices and will not buy until those lower prices occur, the thread is bearish no matter how you cut it. I hear you when you say you are long term bullish but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the here and now. And right now I do not see one poster calling for a breakout from the trading pattern for a sustained rally in stair step fashion.

AMAT reported during First Quarter FY 1998 that it had purchased $80m or 2.653m shares of stock at an average selling price of $30.15. See the press release. But that is not all. AMAT purchased an additional $63m in shares in the Second Quarter FY 1998 (per cc). I do not know the avearge selling price but all you have to do is look at the charts to tell you they probably paid more than $30.15 in the second round. I would guess they at least paid $33. But all you would have to do is call AMAT unless someone else has the information. I guess Morgan doesn't expect to see $13 anytime soon or he is going to average down big time should he get the opportunity <g>.
