My morality, as I have said several times, is governed partly by what I would want done to me. So that I believe we should extend to others the common decency we would want extended to ourselves. As for the forcible deprivation of your money- we live in a democracy and most of its citizens (who vote) agree to the distribution in place, or if they do not, work to change it through the system. The majority of people in this society have delegated the private duty of feeding the hungry in their own kitchens, or giving to those begging at the door, to the government, that the government may keep them insulated from the truly needy. And most people wish to be insulated and would not wish to take up the burden upon themselves. Look at Skipper- and advocate for private charity who does nothing for others (or that is how I understand his post). Now I do a great deal for others, as does my husband, but I cannot imagine taking on all the ills of society.

It is the nature of democracies that certain lunatics will forever be crying in the wilderness, which is too bad for you, but is the nature of the common good served by democracy. If you imagine a bell curve the people at the extremes will never be particularly well served in a democracy- if you find this hard to deal with may I suggest a particularly early removal to Mars, where you can form your own police state where you can force people to listen to you.
