El,
I've been talking about those IBM statistics for some time now, yet look at how well IBM's stock price is doing, and how well Gerstner has been managing Wall Street. They have had negative growth in core parts of their business for years now, yet they just keep buying back stock and Wall Street buys the story. Then, last week Gerstner says they might be able to show double digit gains in their service business (I didn't hear him say anything about the other core areas), and the stock takes off again! It is certainly true that Wall Street is now buying Gerstner's walk and talk, something that CPQ management will need to earn back, in my opinion. This whole IBM story is certainly a perfect example of performance without growth....
