Re: NT Stability. There's a serious point Zeuspaul and I have glossed over which may give the casual reader unwarranted reservations about using NT. The "Blue Screens" I have been experienceing lately, and that Zeuspaul has never seen (though I think he's lying myself <GGG>) are the results of RECOVERABLE crashes. That is, you reboot and you're back in business. As I reported here earlier, when I reinstalled NT a couple of months ago, something destabalized my system, and I get these crashes periodically. Usually about a week or ten days apart. (I run my systems 24 x 7). This is in contrast to Win 95, where it was UNUSUAL to go more than two or three days without a crash. True the "Blue Screen" is a little scarier than the typical Win 95 crash, which is generally a screen freeze, but it's no more serious and it has the same cure: Push the reset button. In fact, Win NT is a bit more robust in that you are highly unlikely to lose data on a reset, except for what you had open and unsaved. OCCASIONALLY you get a Win NT configuration problem that gives you the blue screen when you boot up. When you get THAT, you better have your backups handy and know your recovery procedures, or you're going to be reinstalling NT from scratch, which is usually a little more serious than reinstalling Win 95. I've been runnint NT for over a year, and I've had to do that just once, due to my own stupid errors in updating a sound driver. I wish Win 95 had that track record -- I can't COUNT the times I've reinstalled Win 95 from scratch. Even reinstalling from scratch, ALL I lost was my installed application configuration, and one important text file which I was foolish enough to leave on my desktop (the file itself, not a shortcut to it). You do lose your desktop when you reinstall NT. Other than that, I did not lose ONE SINGLE bit of data. I lost the NT configuration and had to replace it. Painful, but hardly fatal. Well, just thought I'd try to clarify the record. DON'T be afraid to install NT. It IS a stable system. You simply must be prepared for failure. Fail safe it isn't. Regards, Spots
