X, all I can say is that the Terrence behind his posts is quite a lot more multidimensional than he appears out here on the threads. Have you had the experience of getting to know people at SI well enough to email or private message them, and discover that they have definite public and private personas? I don't mean to imply that the public one is phony in any way--just that behind the scenes a lot more depth and vulnerability and openness make the person more appealing. I can think of a LOT of people here like that--all men, frankly. I think the women I know here both ways are much more consistent publicly and privately. And it is helpful for me at least to remember that Terrence is to some degree deliberately giving public exposure to an ideology here. While his basic political and social ideas do not change backstage, they are tempered with a lot more humanity and, um, feelings!!!!
