Ed - Fancy meeting you here! I may well have misreported some of the information in the ABC piece. I can't remember how I came to see it, and it was some months ago. (I seldom watch network TV).

Anyway, best I recall, the stripper wells they visited were in Kansas, and I do distinctly remember an operator saying they capped wells that broke down.

Re $3 oil in the sixties - Isn't there a severance tax, and other taxes on production today? Is Carter's windfall profits tax still around?

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm not in the oil business, just trying to understand the times.

Ed - Again about $3 oil in the 60's - I was in a coin store recently and they were selling early 60's dimes (circulated) for 65c. You probably could buy a barrel of oil today with $3 of silver quarters and dimes. (I hope I'm not in over my head again <G>).
