Terrence, I really can't think of any contemporary robber barons in America. I was speaking historically. I think Bill Gates is quite evil (personal opinion) and dangerous, because he is attempting to control access to the Internet. However, Microsoft fails to meet one of the accepted definitions of a traditional monopoly, in the sense that as he controls more and more market share, the cost of his products is actually going down, not up. Perhaps that is simply delayed in this case, however. I am sure he would take full advantage when he has everything locked up.

I do think Nike, and ALL of the U.S. corporations along the Mexican border who went there deliberately so they could pollute at will, fall very close to raping and pillaging. I think the tobacco companies have acted so unethically, outright lying under oath, creating delivery systems for drugs, peddling to children, etc., that they have raped and pillaged the public health.
