All of the service metrics shift depending on product line. CPQ does very well with enterprise class customers, especially on servers, but poorly with the presario line (they are working to beef up presario service after the abortive debacle over charging for service without the quality team to deliver, which was abandoned after a lot of horror stories). Dell does a lot better with consumer machines (many studies rate them best) but this is partly because their consumer line is pretty limited so they have a much lower call volume than CPQ. Their commercial support is not so good for the average desktop but better for 'major account' customers (who get special treatment). They previously used DEC to service their commercial desktop business but are shifting that to Unisys. CPQ has put a major priority on improving service, all the way down to adjusting compensation and bonus plans based on service satisfaction, and I would expect them to do a lot better as DEC is integrated.
