Many people ARE starting to do something about it. The grass roots organization Citizens Against Taxation has been growing by leaps and bounds the last few years. They are even beginning to influence Congress. They want to ELIMINATE the IRS. After all, the IRS has only been around about 80 years -- it was created about the same time as the Soviet Union (interesting).

The real problem is almost everyone in the U.S. who grew up in the U.S. think that this is the way it should be because this is all they remember. Plus, they were mostly taught in public schools funded by the government from textbooks approved by the government. How many kids who go through public High School and public (state) universities ever study about the Whiskey Rebellion, for instance? How many even know what it was or what significance it played in the power grab made by the federalists in the early days of the Union under the urgings of Hamilton the Manipulator?

Why are so many citizens apathetic? Because they are disgusted with the way things are now, but they buy the line that there are no easy solutions and the mealy-mouthed twisting of words and concepts by both the majority of the Republicans and Democrats: two parties that, philosophically speaking, really don't give you much of a choice. And both are moving away from, not towards, true liberty.
