Unfortunately it would be highly illegal for me to call USC and speak to any of the parties involved directly in the study. Having been involved on FDA studies we were all closely scrutinized to make sure there was no inside trading. It is tempting at times when you know the results of a study that is about to be published in a medical journal that when CNN picks it up will drive a stock up. Even calling the principles and having them talk to me on the phone, despite me not having anything to do with the study, is considered inside trading. The reason is, and there have been rulings and penalties already fined against Doctors, is that if a lay person called it is unlikely the principles involved in the study would talk to them. But as a fellow physician they would tell me. That information would then not be open to the public, even if I placed it on the internet, and would jeopardize everything we are all working for.
