There is an appeal process. It's called bitchandmoan until somebody listens. Apple, the old Apple, has been through this same sales channel tightening before. The store I worked in almost got swept to the side once. It was only when we showed them how high a percentage of our 'then' low sales Apple comprised that they listened. We were reinstated and had our chance to grow out of our slump.

I'm sure that borderline dealers and VARs who do not want to be eliminated from Apple's channel will be heard. The actual number of dealers dropped will be far less than the number that got the letter.

There is politics at work here too. Apple has made promises in order to get concessions out of CompUSA. It was a gamble that the ASWAS would result in enough increased volume to compensate the mega-chain for their expensive troubles. The promises had to be kept, regardless of that outcome.
