Who are the primary competitors in this field and what are SRDX's strengths/weaknesses against the competition. IBD seemed to indicate that SRDX charges a premium for the product--is this due to superior technology or lack of serious competition?

Suggest you check out the Feb 98 perspectus for customers and specific applications, and web site for general application information (www.surmodics.com) . When talking about a detailed process like coatings for medical devices I have no idea who the competitors are other than the device companies itself . I assume SRDX supplies added value to existing or new products. Companies using Surmodics process usually have to go through clinical trials and FDA approvals. if they get into a trials with major medical company I assume that they are generally competitive and . medical device margins will accomidate the SRDX 2-6% royalty. regards dgc
