Technology Stocks : METRICOM - Wireless Data Communications -- Ignore unavailable to you. Want to Upgrade?

MCOM is continuing to acquire the rights to lightpoles in several major metropolitan areas, that effort was _not_ put on hold by Paul Allen. It is misleading to say otherwise.

HVN still bypassed the main issue here - When MCOM was focused on expanding coverage, Seattle, San Fran., and Washington DC all came on-line very quickly. MCOM has a proven track record in this area - it is misleading to say otherwise.

As for circuit switched CDPD and all the others, they are exactly as real today as Autobahn (i.e, they are all not available). It's clear HVN has a lot more faith in the speed at which BAM and others can provide faster data access at reasonable prices than I do. It is my experience that most large wireless companies are more interested in raising rates rather than lowering them. If/when any other wireless solution appears in my area at competitive price/performance levels I will revaluate things. Until then I am very satisfied with my Ricochet and am looking forward to Autobahn.

Re: Marketing - MCOM is about providing unlimited wireless access to the internet at the best possible price/performance. The market for that service is made up of anyone that uses a laptop (and a few that don't) - that includes Small Business, Consumer, Education, SOHO, as well as Corporate users. Up to now, MCOM has done a very good job and their service is the best available in their current coverage areas. Unlike their competitors, MCOM is totally focused on bringing 128K wireless access to market a soon as possible, again at extremely good price/performance levels (<$50/month). MCOM has demonstrated its ability to light-up coverage areas quickly and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so once Autobahn appears.

If you doubt any part of the MCOM story, DON'T INVEST IN THEM! Whatever you do, please keep posts on this thread civil and substantiate any claims that you make. I'd love to hear if others on this thread agree.

Right, so Metricom will be built out in plenty of time to compete effectively.

Annual Meeting, 9am June 26, 1998, at MCOM HQ. HVN, agree with
you that getting rights to use street lights is a loooong process.
Wonder what it is like to get an airport covered. Seems to me
that more airports should be showing up on the Ricochet coverage
list, but they are not. Don't see the Autobahn strategy being a
valid reason for cutting back on the airport permissions project.
They don't even have Dulles.
