(ot) Re: TechTool for fixing problems formatted with the Extended File Format, I have 1.1.7. It doesn't seem to fix all the directory problems that Norton seems to cover. Do I need the Pro version? Thanks!

Absolutely! TechTool 1.1.7 is a free program from MicroMat, albeit a good one, to entice you to buy the Pro version. The free one does not analyze files for any corruption except the System file itself, nor does it do any but the most mundane hardware checks. Its main benefits are only for zapping PRAM, rebuilding the desktop files and cleaning the floppy drive if you have a cleaning kit. Oh, it will also show you the hours in use and the manufacture date, as long as the PRAM battery hasn't been replaced.

The Pro version is much more substantial, with a price tag to match.
