Aleta, did you ever stop to think that maybe some of this money is siphoned off from the 50 million dollar department of defense slush fund, and that maybe this is the reason why U.S. taxpayers pay 50 bucks for a nut, screw or bolt?

Come on, don't go planting that stuff! We're not talking Providence, Rhode Island; we're talking Newport, Rhode Island. I've been to both places--I know the difference in housing. Now, this will really get to you (but I can't resist the humor): I lost my virginity near the cliffs of Newport while attending an early 60's folk festival! You see, I have an affinity and understanding about Newport that you don't--and it has nothing to do with the mob! (LOL ad infinitum)

Who knows where the money comes from? I don't. And you don't either. At least when I said it could possibly be a yacht club connection, I qualified my remark by stating it could be a "wild guess" on my part. Still though, I think it makes sense.

In fact, do a Metacrawler search on the two technical people just hired (Mark Rudholm from the West Coast and John Rienzo from the East Coast). A person by the same name as Rienzo shows up as a participant in Naragannset Bay yachting activities. Is it the same John Rienzo? I don't know. But Naragannset Bay is right next to Newport, Rhode Island, where yachting is famous worldwide. And Australia's yachting interests are equally world renown.

Am I onto something? Maybe. Maybe not. But now at least you all know about it, and you also can dig for more information on the subject. I mean most dogs that bark up a particular tree do so because they strongly suspect something's in the tree. As randomiser once responded to you a long time ago on this thread: "Bow wow." I ditto the remark.

Here's another interesting twist on it: the America's Cup Yacht Race is certainly going to need internet advertising! In fact, the computer might well be the best of all possible ways to advertise such an event, if you think about it. Plus, the computer played a pretty big role in the last America's Cup--could be where the initial interest was sparked. Again: Who knows?

Oh yeah, "Sure would be nice to see some audited financials, so we could stop all this speculation." I agree with this statement.
