Bob, your explanation was quite clear and reflects a lot of what I've observed and suspected: MM actions tend to be situation-specific and where the line is fuzzy, well, they deal themselves the benefit of the doubt. It would be truly an education to be able to look over the shoulder of several different market makers during the course of a trading day. It would help my trading no end, I bet.

I went to the Pacific Stock Exchange last year and watched a friend who trades on the options floor. That helped my trading enormously: it became very clear to me that options are another animal altogether that could easily eat me alive. The lesson was ... don't try to trade options away from the floor.

BTW, you're not related to Ben, are you? :-)
