Ok, seems reasonable. I'm of fairly meager means. I own a couple of junior gold miners, and IMPAY. Got a few more bucks to play with -- what are some other commodities that look good -- should I allocate some to actual commodities (the materials themselves)?

Is there a way to play a general increase in the commodities without futures? -- I'm personally afraid of any investment that can lose me more than I originally put up. Lower risk bets are the most thrilling for me!

TIA

Thanks for your prediction.
For diversification I'm building a 15% position in Oppenheimer Real Asset Fund. It attempts to track the Goldman Sachs Commodities Index, and for the six months ended 2/28 they were each down some 20%

XAL

What do you own and where (level of XAL) did you purchase -- if I may be so nosy? Right now there are low oil prices. Is this play primarily a play on that changing? I think you also mentioned before that these guys are really sensitive to interest rates. Could you talk a little more about that?

The index vs. the individual players? Finally, XAL is right now about 90% of its all-time high -- still real good potential here?

thanks in advance,
tippet

Hi Mike, RE: And when is the last time you have heard the name of a big commodities player on the business news? 5/25/98

You are a straight man.<ggg> PBS on their Nightly Business Report 5/27/98 interviewed a commodity trader, who also thinks the bottom is here or close on the CRB. Of course NBR was pushing the affect of the index going much lower causing a "large" deflationary spiral.

How are you playing this?
