<<re you concerned that Japan will liquidate some investments (US lt bonds) in order to generate some cash>> This is way beyond me. As of this morning, the opposite is true. The flow of Japanese money into U.S. securities is increasing and is propping up the current bull market.

The whole problem with Japan's terrible loans to SEA resulted from a lack of anywhere to invest its capital. In the Atlantic article, the author seemed to me to say that Japan has plenty of capital on hand, in the form of Postal Deposits (over a trillion dollars??).
