Mark this is just Luke's way of saying the human mortal cannot be fit for God's work. Man's mortal body is only animal matter and must be refined or made more perfect by the true immortal Spirit which inhabits mortals. This why preaching or plowing does not refine mortals enough to do the work of the God within us.

Souns far out but is only because society has incorrectly interpreted the bible as God's word. There is not a thing in it historical truth. That's why after 2,000 years of forced religion and control it is difficult to think on any other basis for truth.

The bible as drama or allegory relating to the totality of existence of the heavens contains a means of conveying the wisdom of the ancients. The destruction of this wisdom by trying to make it historical fact is the unintentional evil of Christianity and Jewish beliefs.

I'm asking for it by telling you this truth. Now I have made enemies of Christians and Jews.

If some of these know it alls would realize they do not have all knowledge but only what they have learned from experience and accepted as true.

They will read and criticize posts like this. A true explanation requires much explanation. First you must explain the errors of untruth. Therein lies the difficulty.

The lengthy posts go into this detail as best as I can explain.

Watch for post on Platonic Theology which I will have to send in sections. If you truly have an open mind and desire a different opinion which has a more reasonable explanation print out these posts and read straight thru. If you find fault, ask reasonable questions and I will do my best to answer. Snide remarks will not work to help eithjer of us and could turn people away from God. No matter what our beliefs are.

To be sure it is a walk of faith. I believe also, since in this context Jesus was speaking to the men who were following Him, that He was telling them to NOT turn back to worldly things. One says "first let me go a bury my father," one says" first let me go back to say goodbye to my family".But Jesus says"follow me"then sends them out to preach that the Kingdom of God is near.

The urgency of the mission is that there is nothing more important than following Jesus, and spreading the word.

Another thought to this scripture is this: Jesus says you cannot serve God and mammon(money, or earthly things), but to "lay up treasures in heaven"(Matt. 6:20) and verse 24 says you cannot serve two masters.

If God does not have a pattern for us, why would Jesus spend all this time telling the people the differences between what is acceptable and what is not?

(Mark, I am telling you how I believe, realizing that it all may be a non issue to you ok? )

It is not a matter of turning back to check for mistakes, Lord knows I have done that, but more a matter of TOTAL committment to Him. Trusting that His promises are real for me.
