Without going into the question of MSFT innovation, your statement about Netscape 'inventing' the browser is ridiculous.

Uh, Marc Andressen was one of the people who wrote Mosaic. Most of the rest of the team were hired by Netscape. Internet Explorer is a re-branded version of Spyglass's browser. At least Netscape re-wrote theirs from scratch.

I find it interesting that you would say my statement is ridiculous, but not provide any reasoning to support your assertion.

In both cases the companies took a good but not well marketed technological invention and packaged it in a way that customers could use.

Patently False. Xerox developed some of the technologies for a graphical user interface, but Apple created the first one-- the first operational one as well as developing about half of the essential features that we consider fundamentals of a the gui. Things like undo, cutting and pasting, overlapping windows. Sorry, you are wrong.

This "nonsense" is backed up by every history of the GUI that I've gotten my hands on, as well as all the articles I've read, and the people I talked to at Microsoft when I worked there on the browser issue.

You attack my position, but don't bother to provide a reason to doubt it. Really, you must do better.
