China Expects 100 Million Cable TV Users by 2000

May 26, 1998 (BEIJING) -- China is expected to have 100 million cable TV
customers by the year 2000.
Government departments estimate that 70 million households have cable TV in
China, and the number is growing 10 percent annually.

Cable TV customers accounted for 17 percent of the households in the country.

At present, 9 percent of Chinese households have telephones and 1.2 percent
have computers.


The government has approved over 1,200 cable TV companies, which have cable
networks in over 70 percent of the cities and counties.
