The Philippines' Municipal Telephone Projects Office (MTPO) recently asked private enterprises to help in the establishment of telecommunication centers, where local residents can transmit voice, fax, and data. Estimated to cost US$2 billion, the "Telepono sa Barangay" (TSB) program will initially cover 1,136 rural barangays in 28 provinces, or 11 percent of the total number of barangays, in the country.
