So the rumour is that BCE is interested in MPACT.

"...MPACT won't release details until talks have concluded. Shares in
MPACT jumped $1.95 to a 52 week high of $12.50 on the Montreal
Exchange yesterday. The stock has risen 32 per cent over the past two
days. At the top of the mystery buyer list is BCE, which competes
directly with MPACT in the Internet access industry through its
Sympatico brand. BCE's Bell Canada said last month it plans to launch
a company this fall to operate a national high speed network to
provide electronic commerce and Internet links for its largest
corporate customers. BCE would be able to offer a full slate of
electronic commerce services it if acquired MPACT, says the Globe."
