I believe that you are correct. Pantech is a Qualcomm licensee and an ASIC customer. Since MOT's phones were designed to use the MOT ASIC, and would have to be redesigned to accept the QC ASIC, it would seem apparent that MOT has made a time-to-market decision to source a "functional" phone from Korea. This is a positive for QC on both a royalty and ASIC basis, plus it helps MOT compete--which is ultimately good for CDMA at large.
