Rising short term rates indeed bearish for gold. But climbing long rates are often bullish as this usually reflects fears of rising inflation. No coincidence that bonds and the dollar soared today as gold got smashed.

Ya,the miners are going to get creamed if gold
breaks 280....The leverage in the miners works both
ways.I am dollar cost averaging the eagles though,
I kind of like the low POG, I haven't loaded up
yet.....scotty
