As a physician I have to concur that the FDA would have acted or will act swiftly to stop sales of Viagra if indeed they suspect it to be the cause of the deaths. I do not think they will pull it but steps will be taken by all parties to get the word out of side effects and other untoward effects.

You are seeing a bit of a knee jerk response from investors and analysts in regard to the downward pressure on the stock "if due to this news". I think most would agree the stock was a bit lofty and the 10%+ drop in price from its meteoric rise to a record high prior to this 'death news' maynot have been enough of a correction. For a similar yet not identical situation for those of you into solid reality checks, look at Rezulin use(also a Warner Lambert product as the Lipitor mentioned in previous posts) and the deal struck with their distribution partner Glaxo. When reports of liver toxicity leading to death hit the papers and they decided to drop their sponsorship, WLA acted liked the Titanic. The skinny, liver side effects were known and pre-existing in warnings and yes deaths did occur but you had to know the patient profiles and health status to understand why death was a real world outcome for such a profile. For comfort, look at the graph for WLA(and keep in mind that it just split 3:1 Friday) and note that the last spike down represented the breaking off of Glaxo. It was the last good buying opportunity for WLA and that is what I think this represents for PFE. I also think we are in a phase with this successful product that you will see more negative news coming out as everyone takes a swipe at their success or attempts to get "their piece of PFE's pie and success". Whether it is spurious interpretation of death statistics, the guy who ran the traffic light killing someone because of his disturbed vision, or the class action lawyers filing suit because we lost equity with all the BS...yada yada yada. Just my five cents, sorry for the length<G>.

NB: As an aside, we were always taught that sexual intercourse even though having the potential for being a vigorous and potential cardiac stressing event was relatively safe for the elderly to engage in without much concern of a fatal myocardial event. The caveat was and I presume still is and would more likely also apply to the next younger age group was: "provided it was sex with your spouse and not a mistress/lover/one nighter!"
