Glad to see you are back posting Jay. I guess with the carnage you have more time to devote to SI. How would a merger look at the darkest hour? Wouldn't joining forces with another semi-equipment company bode well for fighting AMAT?

If SFAM becomes a "young teenager" I will totally load the boat even though if we see a protracted downturn the cash reserves will likely be reduced substantially.

Jay,
While I love your enthusiam and I agree the time to buy is when they're down, you also have to follow some logic. SFAM is getting hit in marketshare...period. Even if the equipment market was growing right now SFAM would still be gettting their heads handed to them. AMAT is winning this battle at the momoent. SFAM doesn't have a metal machine capable of competing with AMAT and IPEC...period.
Good luck but I would be betting on other horses right now.

Jay,

Re:we are fast approaching the darkest hour prior to entering the valley of the shadow of death.

This is an understatement of immense proportions. I loved SFAM when I first bought it as a small part of my portfolio. After AMAT's last CC and corroborating views from those in the sector, I would not add to my position, even at these prices. If SFAM is losing market share anywhere close to some predictions, it is difficult to say at what price SFAM is a value. Remember, AMAT is not the 800 lb. gorilla, they're the 1000 lb. gorilla, and SFAM is holding some bananas.
