They were then adopted by the Southern states as a way of circumventing the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the
United States, which guaranteed former slaves the right to vote. Blacks who could not pay the tax were not allowed to vote. Poll taxes were eventually repealed in several states.


I didn't say the link was broken, just that it didn't work.

Those blacks who could pay the poll tax were given a political knowledge test, and no matter how they answered they were not allowed to vote.

That is why your advocation of a political knowledge tax so that only republicans can vote is reprehensable to anyone who believes in a democracy.
