The MicroFlex-PII/333 succeeds in delivering great performance--and does so at a very attractive price--and its management features are fairly good.

The unit's case has a chassis instrusion detector that will notify administrators if the case has been opened. The on-board LM78 ASIC provides hardware monitoring of CPU fan, temperature, and voltage, but the main fan is not connected to the motherboard and so cannot be properly monitored. Remote LAN wake-up was available on the motherboard, but Micro Express chose to add a network card that does not support this feature. The system comes with Intel's LANDesk Client Manager 3.1. The MicroFlex, though lacking a tool-free case, is easy to service and offers plenty of expansion room.

While not billed as a presentation machine, the unit's multimedia components are all top notch--somewhat incongruous in a corporate machine. The system's Number Nine Revolution 3D AGP graphics card is a very good, especially for 3-D functions and its sound card and speakers are excellent. A Creative Labs DVD CD-ROM came with the system, though no DVD software was preinstalled. The unit had terrific performance on most of our tests.
