I lost $5K in stock & options Friday if it makes you feel better....

now you know not to margin your credit cards......but, if you do

1. buy a crack house<g> or similar piece of property for credit limit.
2. Get a 2nd/3rd card....tear house down to studs and rebuild on credit limit
3.mortgage or sell to local crack dealers for profit....

You'll find you make a heafy return on investment....

Jeff

RE: Unfortunately, Datek securities where I had held my SMOD stocks, sold all my shares without giving me any notice, since my value of holdings were below the acceptable margin level

Can they do this?

I guess it is the customer's responsibility to keep the account in shape - still it seems draconian of them to do this without at least contacting you, without at least giving you a chance to add some equity to the account.
