>>>does Livetrade keep a hard to borrow list like MB Trading? I find it amazing that according to the application I received from MB, one must call for authorization before shorting a stock. Does Livetrade also have this requirement?<<<

Tracker,

They do things differently. They have a list of "shortable" stocks on the Nasdaq. The list can be found at:

livetrade.com

Barney

PS Overall I've been real happy with Livetrade - considering I came from SureTrade.

Tracker, I find it curious that you are so cross threaded about how MB Trading handles short sales.

" I find it amazing that according to the application I received from MB, one must call for authorization before shorting a stock."

You do not have to call in ahead of time to sell short. The fact that MB Trading has a small list of stocks that you can NOT short is what is "amazing". The ability to short sell through MB is awesome.

Nearly every other "trading" broker that is set up for level II quotes, real time charts, user defined order routing and instant executions, have a list of stocks that you can short, those lists are NOT more than a few hundred stocks. They don't even come close to offering what MB does.

As soon as you here that a broker has a list of shortable stocks, bingo that is the big warning sign right there!

At Broker soandso I can short from a list of 2, 3, maybe 4 hundred stocks.

At MB Trading I can short any of the stocks over five bucks on the NASDAQ, AMEX, or NYSE, roughly 9000 minus a "hard to borrow" list of about one hundred stocks.

Soandso trading .. you can short from say 300 different stocks.

MB trading .. you can short from say 8,900 different stocks.

What a JOKE!

Your statements were so out of whack with the facts, I had to say something.

Over the last few trading sessions in particular, I have been shorting aplenty and enjoying one and two second fills and confirmations.

good luck with your trades,

funk

ps.

Whether or not you decide to fill out that application, I would consider popping into #daytraders on IRC one of these days, there are over 700 traders in there every day now, it is a great way to see what people use to trade successfully. There is no doubt some livetrade users there too.

go to daytraders.org for instructions on how to get to the chat channel
Check it out, its free!!!!

go to 207.223.212.15 to learn all about the trading system I use and adore.

good luck!

i think barney answered your question. the list, is the one bad thing about livetrade. it is a very short list. hopefully as they grow the list will grow also. you do not need authorization to short though, if you try to short a stock that is not shortable, it is automatically canceled.
