Container Shortage May Add to This Year's Peak Troubles

As the trade gap between the US and Asia increases, a potentially disabling ocean container shortage in Asia has begun to show its effects. Higher... Asian exports...declining U.S. exports caused by the ongoing economic crisis in Asia....... left an overflow of containers in the U.S. and Europe.

Carriers are seeing a 5 to 1 imbalance opposed to a three-to-two ratio in years past..... has forced many of the biggest carriers to ship as many empty containers to Asia as full.....reports have filtered in that some bookings may be denied or delayed until ....

..efforts to guarantee shipments will likely push the yearly Christmas rush (Normaly July) to May and June...

Looks like the Christmas sales in the US may be able to start early this year! Hmmmmmm 50% of the containers shipped are empty? Does that forwarn of a 25% increase in shipping costs......?

Ooops there goes some of the 'quality earnings' out the door. Wonder how Gateway, Dell, Compact, Apple, Black % Decker, Sony et. al. will cope with this one?
