Pat, Thanks for posting those Cymer and ASML related notes. The Phase II scanner that ASML will start shipping in 2H98 sounds like an Orion based system(hard to say for sure), based on the improved system productivity description. At the very least, those systems should be 5010 based. 25 units from ASML alone bodes well for the second half, assuming Canon and Nikon are close behind ASML in shipping advanced scanners. The ratio of DUV to i-line systems ASML is shipping also looks encouraging. Bob

Pat, I'm thinking that there are 2 ways to improve market competitiveness: improve factory efficiency (through automation); and improve the technology. If PRIA is expanding their presence in South Korea they must feel an increase in demand for factory automation is coming. If this is true then maybe the situation in S Korea will start to improve and as I look at the World markets I see that S Korea was 1 of 2 bright spots so far today. 'Course being down 13% in 2 days may be enough to cause a minuscule rally. Good luck today, we're gonna need it! Regards, Stan
