I am convinced that OTC MM's will PURPOSELY widen the spread if they see Market Sell orders coming in or Market Buy orders coming in. They will lower the bid w/o touching the ask. This lower price selling will shake nervous holders b/c they see the price dropping so rapidly from the widening spread. NASDAQ is no picnic either, but at least limit orders have equal book standing as market orders. OTC BB limit orders at the ask dont have equal book standing as a market order and never have to be filled. They will fill them in a slow market, but if they see market buys coming on strong, OTC BB MM's will disregard your limit order.
