Handheld Computer Market Grew 65 Pct In '97 -Study

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Reuters) - The worldwide market for handheld
computers grew 65 percent in 1997, with total shipments reaching 2.4
million units, according to a survey released by Dataqest.

It said the small computers that are generally used as portable calendars,
address books or note pads are most often purchased by individual
business professionals, although they are becoming more popular with
corporations.

Falling prices and improved ease-of-use are also driving demand.

3Com and Hewlett-Packard are the top vendors of handheld computers.

Growth in corporate use of PDA's fits exactly into PUMA's business
plan.... 65% growth... gotta love it.

Will add under 6.
