Morning Christine, I said "of Irish descent". My family have been american citizens for three generations. They emigrated to eastern U.S. in the mid l800s. IMO Christine, you'll find that English occupation for the past few centuries has caused huge differences in Irish personalities in the North & South. The Northern natives(catholic) were treated as 2nd class citizens by the Irish of english/scot descent. They've been denied equal opportunity in education, the job market, etc. The South never felt this oppressive domination by another culture. In any event, the poverty & social injustice is probably to blame in certain ways for the family turmoil. The new advances for peace should make a huge positive difference in the North. It's my understanding the majority of american technology companies with plants in IRL are in the south. Is that correct? We avoided the North during our trip. Galway was the closest we came. The 'troubles' caused most tourists to avoid that area even tho' it was concentrated to a few streets in Belfast for the most part. I know what you mean about shepherding our daughters to choose men who are capable of having a marriage partnership. My daughter, unfortunately, is trying to navigate thru a difficult marriage. Her incentive to try to find solutions to the problems between her & her husband is their daughter. She has tolerated a man who tries to control. The age old problem. He refuses to help with housework, yet feels he's entitled to criticize her cleaning abilities. She's so different from her mother. I would have handed him a mop & bucket from day one with the direction to help or zip his lip. She's employed full-time and he still doesn't see how unfair it is for him to refuse to help with household duties. Dense, in my opinion:o) She's much more tolerant of his childish behavior than I would be. Anyway, I never expected young american women to have these relationship problems in 1998. Did you?
