Thank you, James, for providing that specific procedure whereby we can establish the last date to get the P with dividend. I'll repeat, for a check. - I call my broker (DLJ). - I tell him I want to buy MIDLP before the X-dividend date. - I ask him will he please look up MIDLP and confirm that I can buy it now and get the dividend payable on 5/29. - if "no", I hang up and buy "W" - if "yes", I ask him to please confirm that no "X" appears after the quote, thus double checking. - if "yes", then I get his name and number and express my concern about the dividend. - I buy the "P" and then send email to my brokerage (or fax, whatever), summarizing the broker's report and name, thus putting them on notice prior to the date - if there is any FUD on the broker end and I can't get a clear story, then buy the "W" or wait for the "P" to drop (maybe) post-dividend. Yes?
