The "P" is such a good deal right now it is SCARY. 1500 shares today all bought at the ask... That kettle will eventually have to boil over...

<< that I can buy MIDLP and get the dividend up until market close Friday, 5/29. >>

Lets put this to rest once and for all (you are 100% correct btw):

Any split or dividend you can purchase up to the close of trading on the execution day and you get the extra shares. (There is even a thread somewhere on SI for people who just jump on a stock to get the dividend then sell at the open the next day)

I think everyone assumes its a process where you buy shares and your name gets put on aa list then the company (or TA) pays you the dividend. This is NOT how it works, the dividend is paid on the shares (just like a split). ITs up to the TA to give to the brokers and the brokers to figure out who's account it gets credited to. (Thats why it may take several days to see it appear in your account) If you have E*Trade you'll see the shares as list with and X after them. It means that you have the shares in the account but are not tradable yet.

"P" - remember that the MM's cannot arbitrage common, or warrants, against preferred. The conversion is too far out.
