Jim,
Who says these guys are selling below costs? As Dave pointed out, Compaq's prices on their Web site are artificially high so that the local stores in SmallTown, USA do not get shafted. Anyone doing volume business with HP, Compaq or NEC will tell you that their systems are currently 25% less expensive.

I'm surprised that the Bay Area is not seeing similar prices. Maybe the locals are too flush with tech options to care. Anyone else from the SF Bay Area care to comment.
