*** Major Japanese banks downgraded

Infobeat of 05/27/98

Moody's Investors Service has downgraded credit and financial
strength ratings for five major Japanese banks, citing concern over
Japan's weakening economy and the Asian financial crisis. In a grim
assessment of the country's financial institutions, the credit agency
also has put another four Japanese banks on review for possible
downgrade. The downgraded banks are Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi,
Industrial Bank of Japan, Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Sakura Bank and
Sumitomo Bank. (USA Today)

Clark, they finally acknowledged you <g>:

<< Moody's is not alone in warning that deflationary pressures
in Japan may result in more corporate failures, which would
increase bad loans held by banks and thus hurt the fragile
economy further. >>
