ATM's

I agree Peter, getting cash is one of the biggest service handicaps of the internet banks. The average customer needs ready access to cash. It's amazing how many people line up at the ATM's for lunch money.

AIB's average customer seems to have a lot more money though and probably doesn't have a cash access problem. Easily handled through another local account such as you have done.

G&L is toying with the idea of offering a limited number of free monthly ATM transactions regardless of the provider. Their average account will probably be smaller and their depositor rates less than AIB to cover increased service costs. The loyalty factor will work strongly in their favor, though so they should be able to avoid the hot money shopper.

Both NCR reps for G&L told me how behind the power curve most banks are with regard to modern financial information systems. You'd think that most banks would be early adopters of modern technology but it just isn't so.

ATM's are going the way of branches. Full service, full featured, smart ATM's you could call them. NCR is also deploying drive through ATM's. These machines will soon be delivering most of the same services that traditional branches now deliver. They are a natural companion to internet banks.

NCR is getting into internet banking services in a big way. In fact they just signed AIB. NCR has the capability of supporting Edify's Electronic Banking System much better than the previous provider. NCR is also partnered with Travelers for insured transactions and electronic bill payment. Much cheaper than Checkfree I am told. AIB will be staying with Checkfree.

NCR's data warehousing is very cool. It tracks customer transaction habits and trends and helps you strategically target your services.

My dart board pick yielded an unusual result today. The dart missed the board, bounced off the wall, and stuck in my foot. I took that to mean short NIKE.
