It will probably keep INTC from outright buying RMBS! That would be unfortunate since I think INTC is wise to expand their participation in all parts "inside"!

This government is starting to get on my nerves with all this intervention in our free & open markets! They should sit back and regulate what they had a hand in creating...the railroads, electric utilities, aerospace, and telephone industries for example! Microsoft and Intel didn't use a dime of taxpayers money to create their respective market shares, in fact, it was MSFT that quietly and skillfully changed the conventional wisdom of IBM being a monopoly and therefore unbeatable company in the 1980's!

I firmly believe this is part of a much larger plan or paranoia within our government. Think about it...this new wave of technology and the internet has the potential of destablizing many different industries and businesses in the future. One that comes to mind immediately is commercial real estate! This is kind of like the argument that there already exists a clean, non polluting engine on paper, but that our government will do anything possible to suppress its development in order to protect GM, Ford, Exxon, Mobil, BG&E, Pepco, etc. The effects that technology will have on the current status quo are just now being realized...government can only hope to SLOW the pace a little by harassing the largest and most visible players in the business!

Personally, I think Bill Gates hasn't been bold enough in his dealings with the government! If I were he, I would set aside $5 Billion of corporate PLUS $5 Billion of personal funds for a new comprehensive political and legal wing or division. Lined up a much more talented legal team, and focused resources on EVERY congressional district in EVERY State in the Union! Making sure not to overstep any legal bounds, I would AGGRESSIVELY seek to challenge any efforts to break up MSFT, change accepted legal business practices or contract law, or more broadly, intervene in the growth and development of THE most fascinating, productive, and EMPOWERING industry the world has ever witnesses!!!

Peace!
