Here is some info regarding internet telephony. Yesterday Telecom corp of New Zealand announced that the partners for the planned SOUTHERN CROSS pan-PACIFIC cable project were finalizing the agreement Telecom NZ is one of three partners laying the 2nd longest communications cable in the world. The other 2 partners are World Com and Cable and Wireless. The 18,750 mile cable loop will run from Australia to New Zealand to Hawaii to the west coast of the U.S. and back to Australia via Fiji. The price for this venture will be in excess of 1 billion dollars Australian. The purpose of the cable was said to be "BOOST THE INTERNET CAPACITY AND SPEED BETWEEN AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND AND THE U.S." The project is expected to be completed prior to the year 2000 Olympic games in Australia. It would seem some people are not to afraid of an economic collapse effecting the telecommunications industry. MARK C.
