Hawkeye...as a believer in the Ballard technology (and only to a much lesser degree a believer in Ballard as an investment at this point), your ideas on the threat posed to Ballard by the new discovery would appear to be well founded, excepting that the long term expectations built into Ballard's stock price which are not supported by <current> fundamentals could easily be affected by similarly long-term threats of alternative technologies, particularly if those technologies are a quantum leap forward (no evidence on that yet, as you mentioned). I think this development is further evidence of the ultimate superiority of <low temperature> fuel cells in general as a panacea for decentralized energy applications. I would be nervous if I was holding Ballard though. I'm not currently bullish on Ballard's stock price, although I am impressed with their technology and development plan, which has so far been executed flawlessly. The irrational expectations built into many "tech" stocks now is genuine cause for worry re. the market as a whole, and sympathetic action in Ballard in the case of a market meltdown would not be unexpected. Whatever the case, the oil age is looking a little long in the tooth, with all these breakthroughs, both on the supply side and the conservation/efficiency side.
